“We are deeply saddened to hear that a worker, father and husband died at Tip Top bread factory in Chullora yesterday.

“The union has reached out to the family and has offered our support where we can.

“We are also working with the man’s workmates at the site to ensure they are able to grieve and access any services they may require.

“No one should ever leave for work and not come home. Every workplace death is a national tragedy.

“The union will work with the safety regulator and the company to make sure the death is properly investigated and if negligence is found the union will seek justice for this worker and their family.

“UWU is committed to doing whatever is necessary to ensure that every worker at this workplace is safe.

“Again, our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to this worker’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”

UWU acknowledges that we meet and work on the unceded lands of First Nations peoples.
